Brain & Spine Imaging, Specialist Assessment & Second Opinions
If you already have MRI, CT or other imaging, you can bring your scans and reports for specialist review. Second opinions may be given on a diagnosis, on whether surgery is needed, or on a treatment that has already been proposed.
Where further imaging is needed, it can be arranged as part of the assessment. Scans are done at the appropriate hospital or imaging centre, not in the consultation room. Dr Chou explains what the scans show, what the options are, including observation where appropriate, and the likely benefits and risks of each.
- Review of existing brain and spine MRI and CT scans
- Second opinions on a diagnosis or proposed surgery
- Brain MRI for tumours, vascular conditions and neurological symptoms
- Spine MRI for slipped discs, nerve or spinal cord compression, tumours and injuries
- CT of the brain and spine, and spine X-rays
- Vascular imaging such as CT angiography, MR angiography and catheter angiography
Imaging that may be arranged
Depending on the question being answered, imaging may include:
- Brain MRI, for tumours, vascular conditions, neurological symptoms and other abnormalities
- Spine MRI, for slipped discs, nerve and spinal cord compression, tumours, degeneration and injuries
- CT of the brain and spine, where bone, bleeding or injury needs to be assessed quickly
- Spine X-rays, for alignment, degeneration, fractures and deformity
- CT angiography, MR angiography, catheter angiography and cerebral perfusion studies, for aneurysms, stroke, vascular malformations and bypass assessment
What to bring
Bring your scan images (on disc or with access to an online link), the radiology reports, any referral letter, and a list of your medicines and previous treatments.
