IV Fluids & IV Iron

By appointment

IV fluids may be given when you are dehydrated and cannot keep enough fluid down, for example during a stomach infection. They are not offered as a routine pick-me-up for minor illness or for wellness. You are observed at the clinic during and after the drip, and transferred to hospital if you need more care.

IV iron may be suitable for confirmed iron deficiency when tablets have not worked or cannot be taken. The doctor first looks for the cause of the low iron and checks whether it is safe for you.

  • IV fluids for dehydration when clinically indicated
  • Short observation at the clinic
  • IV iron for confirmed iron deficiency, where appropriate
  • Blood tests before and after treatment
  • Transfer to hospital if more care is needed

How it works

  1. Assessment

The doctor examines you, reviews your blood tests and decides whether a drip is needed and safe for you.

  2. Treatment

The drip is given in the clinic by trained staff, with your pulse, blood pressure and wellbeing checked throughout.

  3. Observation

You stay for a period of observation after the drip to check for any reaction.

  4. Follow-up

You leave with advice on what to watch for and a plan for follow-up, such as repeat blood tests.

Injections, IV Antibiotics & Line Care

By appointment

If your hospital specialist has prescribed a treatment that needs to be given regularly, such as an injection, a course of IV antibiotics or care of a PICC line, it may be possible to continue it near home. We follow your specialist's written plan and keep them updated.

Depending on the treatment, it is given at the clinic or arranged with a partner provider. Each treatment is checked for suitability first, and any problem, such as a fever or a blocked or painful line, is passed back to your specialist team straight away. Chemotherapy is not given at the clinic.

  • Specialist-prescribed injections
  • IV antibiotics directed by your specialist, with blood test monitoring
  • PICC line dressing changes and flushing
  • Updates to your specialist after each stage of care

Brain & Spine Specialist Referral

By appointment

If the GP finds that a headache, back or neck problem, numbness or weakness needs a specialist opinion, you can be referred within our group to Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr Chou Ning.

Dr Chou sees patients at Continuum 24/7 Clinic Sengkang on Saturday afternoons, by appointment. These specialist sessions are separate from the 24-hour GP service.

  • Referral for brain, spine and nerve conditions
  • Your GP notes and test results shared with the specialist
  • Specialist appointment at Sengkang, by appointment

Eye, ENT, Orthopaedic & Other Specialist Referrals

Walk-in

The GP assesses you, starts treatment and arranges any tests. If you need a specialist, we refer you to one of our partner specialists or a hospital service, with a referral letter and your results.

Urgent eye problems are referred the same day where needed. After you have seen the specialist, we can continue your care at the clinic in line with their plan.

  • Ear, nose and throat (ENT)
  • Eye (ophthalmology), including same-day referral when urgent
  • Orthopaedic and hand surgery, with X-ray where needed
  • Gynaecology
  • Urology
  • Follow-up care at the clinic after your specialist visit

Dental, Physiotherapy, Podiatry & Dietetics

Walk-in

For toothache or a dental injury, the GP can check for spreading infection and give pain relief, then refer you to a partner dentist. Dental treatment itself is carried out by a dentist.

We can also refer you to physiotherapists, podiatrists and dietitians, for example after an injury, for diabetic foot care, or for help with diet and weight. These services are provided and charged by the partner provider.

  • Medical assessment and pain relief for dental problems
  • Referral to a partner dentist
  • Physiotherapy after injury or for back and joint pain
  • Podiatry, including diabetic foot care
  • Dietitian advice for diabetes, cholesterol and weight

Hospital Surgery & Aftercare

Walk-in / By appointment

If you need an operation, we refer you to a surgeon and hospital, with your history and test results.

After the operation, you can return to the clinic for wound checks, dressing changes, stitch removal and medication review, following your surgeon's plan. Hospital and surgeon fees are charged separately by the hospital.

  • Referral to a surgeon and hospital
  • Wound checks and dressing changes after surgery
  • Stitch and staple removal
  • Medication review and recovery check
  • Contact with your surgical team if a problem arises
